Finding beauty and awe on local trails or city blocks in the Bay Area. I paint acrylics from my easel or set up in my studio with acrylic or oil. I am drawn to man made structure pushing against nature. When painting outside, I will gravitate towards power lines, radio towers, and canals. These are just part of the image; nature takes the lead as subject matter.

"The Confluence", acrylic on wood, 20" x 22", Painted September 2025.
Began painting this right after finishing "Ferry Building". I have painted this scene countless times; the meeting of the San Ramon and Alamo creeks along the Ironhorse Trail in Dublin. Gradually built up color in translucent layers to allow the beauty of the wood to shine through. This painting took my full concentration.

Holdener Park, 20" x 16", acrylic painting on canvas, Plein Air 2025
Part of Paint Livermore, set up in Holdener Park on a gorgeous, windy day. The landcape took just 20 to 30 minutes to paint; the clouds hours. This painting shows the fresh, vigorous brushwork one only gets with Plein Air.

"Alamo Creek", acrylic painting, 11" x 14", painted 10/19/2025.
Landscaping crew recently cleared out the underbrush along this stretch off the creek, exposing stark, black trunks. I fell in love with the juxtaposition of the black limbs against the green dappled leaves.

"Stormy Night on Iron Horse Trail", acrylic painting, 16"x20", painted 8/10/2025.
This is a painting a photo of the Iron Horse trail, at dusk, during a storm. This is the fourth iteration of the image. An scene so familiar and comforting to me and yet full of atmosphere and difused light. Previous paintings were too dark; a danger when painting in acrylic. I even tried a larger version in oils, bu

Sunset over Dublin, 11" x 14", acrylic painting, painted August 2025
A small painting of the view out my window. The hill in the background is where Highway 580 cuts through to Castro Valley. The clouds took the most time to paint; repeated translucent layers : using acrylic like watercolor.

"The Ferry Building", 16" x 20", acrylic on wood, painted August 2025. SOLD
An excuse to paint water! This image combines all the aspects I love to paint: man made structure, water, light, clouds, and reflections. I purposely wanted the wood to show through and painted the entire image like a watercolor; leaving the golds untouched (but adding the whites). Absolutely no room for mistakes!
