Plein Air (painting outside) is easy with an E-Bike in the Tri-Valley Area. I can load up my cargo bike with easel, canvases, paints, palette, water, and coffee, and explore the roads and paths of Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, and San Ramon.
I confess, I am a former bike messenger; riding with traffic does not freak me out. But, I like my rides to be serene, transporting me to another place with the same joy as a pleasant walk. I try to find quiet streets, wide or separated bike lanes, or better yet, multi-use trails. A silver-lining to all the new housing developments is that trails for walking and biking have been incorporated into every new community. Each ride is a downloadable GPS route you can upload to your phone.
A collection of spots I have painted alone or with the Casual Dublin Plein Air group. The bike path does not make the most sense; it was to map these places out for myself. All are bikeable, though. A good reference for where to paint in this area.
Dublin has great restaurants to order food from and a few to sit for breakfast or lunch, but only downtown Pleasanton has Art Galleries and Wine bars, with scrumptious food. As a treat, my husband and I will bike down to Pleasanton, Head to the Museum on Main (if it is early enough) and then the Firehouse Art Center for the latest art show and . Then we will park our bikes in front of the Cellar Door.
Before I was brave enough to paint alongside the Artists in Casual Dublin Plein Air group, I set out on my own. I had dabbled in painting outside since college, this was the first year I regularly ventured into the field.
